How do you sharpen ceramic knifes? Many users never need to sharpen their ceramic knives! Because
they are extremely hard and chemically inert, these knives keep their edges much longer than steel
knives. Unlike steel knives, ceramic knives resist dulling due to wear, oxidation, or rolling (when a
metal edge bends or rolls over). Zirconium oxide is almost twice as hard as steel. The typical ceramic
knife will hold it's edge for eight months to three years or longer, depending on use., i.e., technique,
cutting surface, frequency or use, etc. Kyocera currently offers complimentary sharpening on their knives
with a nominal fee for shipping and handling ($10.00 for up to two knives, $5.00 for each additional knife).
For questions regarding the re-sharpening service, please call Kyocera at 1-800-537-0294 or visit their website.
Will a ceramic knife shatter if dropped? Ceramic knives do not shatter. The advanced ceramic blade is
much stronger than conventional porcelain ceramics or glass.
Will a ceramic knife break if dropped? It is possible, but very unlikely. All Kyocera ceramic products are
warranted to be free from defects in material or workmanship for five (5) years after the original purchase date.
Please refer to the Kyocera packaging insert for details.
How can I damage a ceramic knife? Two ways. First, you could chip the edge if you cut into bones.
Second, you could break off the tip or snap off the handle if you try to flex the blade, e.g., pry with the
tip, etc.
How can I damage a ceramic peeler? If you try to peel very thick rinds like gourds or squash, you could
chip the blade. If you push too hard (you should not have to because it is so sharp!), you could crack
the plastic frame which holds the blade.
Can I put my ceramic knife in the dishwasher? Not recommended. Hand wash.
Where should I store my ceramic knife? You can store your ceramic knife in a conventional knife block,
in an in-drawer tray, or in the package
.
